The island is located at the 8 1/2 degrees north latitude and within a few minutes off the Caribbean coast of Panama. Isla Solarte (Cayo Nancy) is part of an archipelago of about 100 islands, on the border of Costa Rica and hugs the Panamanian coast for many miles to the south. The island itself is about three miles long and less than half a mile wide at the widest point. Isla Solarte rises over a hundred meters from the sea and has a large number of summits, hills and slopes, which provide a very good view of half a dozen of the neighboring islands and the Panamanian coastline. The tropical rainforest on the island has hundreds of varieties of trees, which have a 40-foot canopy, allowing only filtered sunlight through the ferns and countless species of plants and covering the forest floor. Whoever commits the island on foot, will hear the only sounds that come from the over 300 species of tropical birds that inhabit the forests. The coral reef surrounding the Isla Solarte, offers some of the best snorkeling and diving option in the area.
